Everyone Is Important

As a teacher, I believe in creating a supportive, encouraging, nurturing environment for all students. I feel that all my students are important individuals and I will let them know this through my actions and words. I will listen to my students and be patient, kind and understanding. With an emphasis on being open and respectful, I will guide them in their emotional and social growth.

Face-painting on Hallowe’en

During my practicum, I wanted everyone to feel included in the fun activities. On Hallowe’en, I volunteered to face paint kids that didn’t have costumes. I probably painted 8 or 9 kids. Some were full face paintings and a couple were details on cheeks and hands.

One girl was having a really rough morning. Her mom said she refused to put on her Hallowe’en costume. I volunteered to face paint her and she finally decided on a butterfly theme. She loved the design and was smiling throughout the festivities. At the end of school, her mom thanked me for helping out.

Near the end of the day, one boy finally decided on having a Spiderman design. Since I was running out of time, I did a partial Spiderman — and he was extremely happy with the results.

For me, it was very rewarding to make a difference in their Hallowe’en experience.
