Children Learn Everywhere

A child’s learning does not stop at the end of the school day. Through my actions, I hope to show students how my lessons are connected to their everyday lives. I also want to promote a dialogue within a student’s family. Through letters, notes, cards, field trips, and parent discussions, I will provide many opportunities for families to be involved in their student’s education.

Literacy Project

Kindergarten is literally the first time some kids have held a pen or pencil. There were a few kids that couldn’t even spell their name. For this project, I asked the children to find out the coolest thing with the first letter of their name. I sent a note to their parents to help them pick out an object.

“My Favourite Thing”

Project Parameters

1. Students name at the top
2. The letter at the bottom (hopefully big)
3. Create a drawing of their favourite thing in the centre of the page (hopefully big)
4. The students tell me why they chose the thing and I scribe it on their artwork.

The note to the parents (top image) and two student project examples (bottom images) are shown below:

Emma (letter E) said “I like elephants because their nose gives them water.” William (letter W) said “I like watermelons because they cool me down on hot days.“
